Laylat al-Qadr (Arabic: لیلة القدر) means The Night of value, The Night of Power. This is the holiest night of the month of Ramadan and so does for the entire year.

Lailat al-Qadar holiday will be observed on Thursday, the 24rd July.
Based on the sight of moon in North America, Lailat al-Qadr will start in North America a day later – on Friday, the 25th of July.
Because the Islamic calendar days start after the sunset:
- observing Lailat al-Qadarwill will start from the sun set of Wednesday, the 23nd July untill the sunrise of Thursday, the 24rd July.
- in North America, Lailat al-Qadarwill start from the sun set of Thursday, the 24nd July untill the sunrise of Friday the 25rd July.
When is Lailat al-Qadar – The exact date
The exact date of Lailat al-Qadar is not mentioned exactly. It is advised to search for this night among the each odd-numbered night of the last ten days of Ramadan month. According to the Muslim intellectuals, it might be the indication of 27th night of Ramadan and this date is mostly followed in the Muslim world. However, devoted Muslims do prayer and worship in every odd night of the last 10 days of Ramadan.

In the night of Lailat al-Qadar, the first verse of the holy Quran was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (SM). In The holy Quran, the importance of this night has been emphasized specially because of its significance.
Significance of Lailat al-Qadar
The importance of Laialt al-Qadar is great since the holy Quran was sent down to earth in this night through the Prophet Muhammad (SM) from the lmighty Allah. The Almighty Allah has prescribed the total way of a Muslims life style in the holy Quran. So, the night is very important for the Muslims.
Prophet Muhammad (SM) has emphasized about this night to worship throughout the night. It is advised to stay awake and pray all night. Worship performed in this night is rewarded as worship performed in 1000 months.
Muslims usually start prying immediately after the sunset and stay awake and pray till dawn. Muslims pass this night by praying whole night in Lailat al-Qadar so that they can achieve closeness, blessing and mercy of Allah. Although there is no prescribed form of performing worship in this night, Muslims usually pass this night by praying, reciting Quran and calling names of Allah whole night. If someone prays with full devotion in this night, Allah will reward him especially due to the significant nature of this night.
Since the date is advised to seek for and do the worship whole night, some Muslims pray whole night every odd night of Ramadan. This is the night of achieving mercy of Allah, night of self purification and devotion.
